Hi crafty nannie I use a Dremel to make a hole in the middle of the lid of jar.I then buy the wire light thread them through the hole leaving the switch out.I buy the fine glitter for glitter glass and glitter the lid if not wanting to paint the jar I just glitter round the top as the jars sometimes have numbers printed on the jar.as you can see some jars have a nice pattern on the bottom.c

I'm assuming the lights have a battery pack to them for power?
Could you not take a piece of card and cut it to the size of the jar about an inch down from the lid, stick the card in place to make a shelf to put the battery pack on. You would have to put glitter or paint on the outside of the jar to hide the battery pack but it would be all enclosed.
