Oh......Chelsea Flower Show.....next weekend...am always amazed at the exotic flowers all around the world.....but always my favourites are the English roses..... and the gentle colours that work so well in soft boquets etc.....wonder what are the favourite flowers of you all....for me depends on the mood, but love painting roses....the first painting I ever sold was simpl 2 red roses in watercolour...I later heard the lady who bought it had put it in her very old and quaint cottage....with oak beams...I could then and still in my mind picture this little painting in place on an oak beam....then the joy of painting all kinds of wild flowers....from childhood to the present day...So what flowers do you love most and why?

Oh I went to Chelsea last year and it was lovely. This year we are going to Hampton Court instead. Really looking forward to it.

I love roses and am partial to lupins. I think they are lovely in a border and come in some fabulous colours. A mixed colour border for me is delightful.

I have so many favourites - I think it depends on the time of year to some extent. But irises have always been up at the top, from the sweet little dwarf ones in spring, big bearded irises in the border or delicate Japanese water irises they are all elegant and beautiful.

I used to go quite regularly to the HamptonCourt Flower show when we lived in London area....always found it fascinating....then had quite a large garden (and lots of energy)...lot younger of course.

Iris are wonderful to paint and can be quite dramatic with their spots and stripes and flowing elegant colours....interesting.

Lovely to think of your rose painting set in such appropriate surroundings, Mary.

Sure to be lots of inspiration at the show!
