Steps

Step 1

Crochet 6 chain and make dc in the 4th chain from the hook where I am pointing.

Step 2

Crochet a dc in the next chain from the hook and crochet a dc in the next chain, dc in the last chain from the hook, you now have 4 dc in a box shape.

Step 3

Turn your work and crochet 6 chain, make a dc in the fourth chain from the hook, crochet a dc in the next chain , dc in the last chain from the hook.

Step 4

You now have two boxes. Where I am pointing is a loop this is where you join the two boxes, slip stitch in to the loop, then chain 3, this represents the first dc, then dc 3 in to the same space, turn your work.

Step 5

Three boxes formed, when you have turned your work do 6 chain, do a dc in the fourth chain from the hook, a dc in the next chain, and a dc in the last chain from the hook, find the loop, and slip stitch this box to it, make. 3 chain then 3 dc in the same loop. Continue to slip stitch to the next loop at the top of the box , 3 chain and 3 dc in the same loop to end of row.

Step 6

Turn your work at the end of every row, and continue to work as above, this is increasing one box at the beginning of each row do about ten rows and in part 2 I will tell you how to decrease. Which will then give you a complete square.

Step 7

The work looks like going up stairs when you look at it.
