My dad used to drive my mom mad with his newspapers, he was always keeping bits and pieces to reread. In the end she bought a cupboard to go by his chair that he could keep all his newspapers in and all the other paraphernalia like his glasses and his cup and book he was reading and a little radio he used to listen to, he could put on top.

I think when you have an untidy partner all you can do is give them a space that is convenient to them for all their clutter, if you at least meet them half way then they really are just being selfish after that.

Tom isn't tidy either, he likes things to be tidy just isn't tidy himself. When he did the kitchen I asked him to make me a low bar, kind of like a breakfast bar but rather than being high that you use with the high stools I asked him to make it low enough for a normal chair. The space was supposed to be for three things. first for me to be able to sit down when I was preparing food for dinner for at least some of the jobs, two was for Alia to have a place to sit to eat her lunch where she could still see me in the kitchen if I was getting her lunch ready or preparing dinner, and three for when he worked from home it would have given him a small space to work, since he generally seems to prefer to work in the dining room rather than the office anyway. (this bar was to be the dining room side of the kitchen counter which separates the kitchen and dining room. ...

it's never been used for the first two uses because he never puts his stuff away after working from home and has taken to using it as a dumping ground for any other bits and pieces he has. I've not given up on using it for me or Alia and left him to it because at least now the dining table is clear.

I tried the idea your mum had Sarah for your dad A slim shelf unit by the side of his chair but it became so untidy I took it away and gave him large tubs with lids beside the chair, but they are overflowing and papers are down the sides lying on top too ,so I added a small coffee table for cups etc now that is buried in paper work , I think I will just leave him till I boil over again then look out😂
